18. Sermon on the Mount Matthew 5-7

The great disclosure by the Lord Jesus Christ had been called the Charter of the New Kingdom. It was revolutionary when it was uttered and is has never ceased to be so.

In the left lancet we have symbolized a Beatitude, the mourner being comforted by the hand of God. Below this we see the candle shedding its rays on the whole world, a reminder to Christians of their great obligation.

The center panel depicts the house of the wise man built on a rock that survived the storm, and the house of the foolish man who built on sand, and saw his bouse come crashing down. It we build lives that are strong and enduring, we too must build them on the rock of God's word.

The artist has used a balanced scale to show us that human relationships are properly focused by adhering to the golden rule. The other medallion in the right lancet shows an olive branch extended to the sword, symbolizing onw of our Lord's most diggicult teachings. Love your enemies
