16. Christ in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:39, 42, Psalm 102:6)
As Christ faced the agony of the cross, He took His disciples and went in Gethsemane to pray for strength. As He knelt in the garden, He visualized the suffering that awaited Him, and His very soul cried out. Let this cup pass from me!
The cup of suffering is sumbolized in the left lancet.
On the right is pictured the pelican of the wilderness, who gives up her own life that her young might live. So does Christ give up His life to deliver us from death.
The center panel is symbolic of the victory Christ won as He accepted the burden of sin and death.
