4. The Fall of Man (Genesis 3-4)
And God commanded, "Of the tree of knowledge thou shalt not eat …For in the day thou
eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
In the day that man sinned, he became afraid of God. Adam and Eve were driven out of
the garden, and a flaming sword was placed at the gate to keep them away from the tree of life.
The center lancet shows this barred entrance, and on the left we see the crude implements of toil that symbolize the struggle for survival man brought upon himself. On the right we see the stone altars, representing the offerings brought in worship by Cain and Abel.
