14. Christ at the Door (John 3:14, 36, Revelation 3:20)

This window symbolizes the sacrifice Christ has made for all mankind. The panel to the left shows the brazen serpent which Moses lifted up in the wilderness on the slender Tau cross, a symbolization of Christ's prophecy of How own death: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so much the Son of man be lifted up.

The right lancet contains one of the most beautiful of all ancient symbols of our Lord. It is common in the Roman catacombs. The risen and triumphant Lamb of God is shown with the head surrounded with a three-rayed nimbus, signifying divinity. The banner is attached to the cruciform staff, signifying His death on the cross, and is emblematic of His victory over death. Behold the Lamb of God!

In the center of the window Christ is portrayed knocking at the heart's door, which can only be opened from within. The sacrifice He has made and the victory He has won are of no avail to us until we accept them. Behold, I stand at the door and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him.
