7. David (I Samuel 16:11-13)
The Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart ... then Samuel took the horn of oil
and anointed him ... and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.
The life of David is so well-known that it is obvious to any observer that this is "The David
Window." The center panel shows David, the youngest son of Jesse, standing before the prophet
Samuel, waiting to be anointed. The harp in the left lancet is the ancient symbol of David,
representing the many beautiful psalms he sang to his God. On the right is shown the shepherd's
crook and horn, for David never forgot that he was a shepherd boy who was called by the Most
High to lead his people.
