13. Christ with Children, Christ Calling Disciples (Matthew 19:13-15, 4:18:20)
Jesus loved children, and often used them as illustrations of purity and goodness in His
teachings. Perhaps the passage illustrated by this medallion is none of the most familiar
examples. His words to the disciples who would have turned the children away might will be
remembered by Christians today: Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, For to
such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
The magnetism of Jesus is revealed in the incident illustrated by this medallion. As He
walked by the sea of Galilee, He called two of His disciples, Simon Peter, and Andrew His
brother, from their fishing boat. His simple invitation and their response has been repeated in
many hearts in every generation: He saith unto them, "Follow me..." and they straightway left
their nets, and followed him.
