The Chancel Choir of Broadway Baptist

The Chancel Choir of Broadway Baptist is a committed group of approximately 100 volunteer singers. Broadway has always had an outstanding music program. It draws many people to our church. At the heart of that program is the Chancel Choir.

Choir's Statement of Mission

Music is an essential part of worship and ministry. Those who provide worship leadership in music should do so with a Christ-like attitude, which can best be accomplished through an active and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The members of the choir covenant together to strive to maintain high standards of spirituality and musicianship so that we may be instruments of God in worship. Everything we do centers around these tenets.

About the Choir

The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00. Rehearsals end by 8:45.

Other activities include occasional social gatherings and special events. Each year, usually the first Sunday evening of advent, the choir leads in a community-wide Messiah Sing held in the Broadway sanctuary. The choir performs music specific to the season at Easter and Christmas. Many years a Hymn Festival is provided and usually there is a performance of a major work such as the Brahms Requiem. The choir will be doing Mendelssohn's “Elijah” in the spring of 2003. Also for the past few years the choir has put on a performance called "Best of Broadway" in March, where small parts of several Broadway (New York) shows are done as well as a Silent Auction as part of the evening. Check Upcoming Events from the main website to find out more information.

We are richly blessed with the opportunity to work with some of the most outstanding music professionals in this country. Dr. Al Travis has accompanied the Chancel Choir at the organ for over 20 years. And the choir is currently under the direction of Dr. C. David Keith as Interim Minister of Music. Both of these professionals are on the teaching staff of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary here in Fort Worth.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Chancel Choir is welcome to attend a Wednesday evening rehearsal and complete an enrollment form.
