Ministries for Youthyouth

Broadway Baptist Church has a rich history of taking good care of her youth. It's wild to consider all the lives that God has touched through this ministry...and still is! Our ministry involves students in grades six through twelve. Youth at Broadway are involved in many different things including spiritual formation, missions, camps, retreats, and fellowships.

Spiritual Formation

Sunday Mornings
We meet in the Youth Hall for donuts and fellowship from 9:00am to 9:40am. At 9:40am we gather for music and announcements and then move to age graded, co-ed Bible study classes.

Wednesday Evenings
Youth area opens at 4pm. At 5:45pm we begin with announcements and prayer time. Our Wednesday evening activities include Bible study series and mission activities.

Small Group Gatherings
During the fall and spring semester we offer a small group, spiritual formation class on Sunday afternoons. We use the Companions in Christ youth curriculum.

Retreats

Back to School Retreat
Usually in October, this retreat focuses on Bible study, community building, and fellowship at our lodge at Camp Broadway on Eagle Mountain Lake.

Mid Winter Retreat
Mid Winter Retreat is a weekend away to re-connect with our group, our friends from the Southwest Baptist Youth Camp churches, and most of all with God. We worship, dance, sing, play, eat, study, rest and pray together. About 200 of us come together at the Riverbend Retreat Center near Glen Rose, TX, on Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

Preparing for Adolescence Retreat
In the spring, fifth and sixth graders are invited to a Preparing for Adolescence retreat. The focus is preparing children for the middle school and high school years of their lives. Peer pressure, drug and alcohol, clothing choices, and frank talks about their changing body are just some of the conversations that take place.

Mission Opportunities

Operation Christmas Child
We work in cooperation with Samaritan’s Purse to fill shoe boxes full of Christmas cheer for children all over the world.

30 Hour Famine
This is a weekend of fasting and learning about poverty and how it affects millions of children all over the world. We raise money and awareness for World Vision.

Spring Break Mission Trip
Since hurricanes Rita and Ike hit the Gulf Coast, there has been plenty of work to do to help people get back in their homes. Our high schoolers have headed south for the last 4 years to help with roofing, repairing drywall, painting, and clearing lawns for families in Orange, Bridge City, and Beaumont, TX.

Agape Meal
Every Thursday night at BBC, we serve a meal to our neighborhood guests. Our youth act as table hosts and servers and have also led during the worship time.

Cheer Groups
Once a month on Wednesday nights, we visit our "adopted grandparents". We take presents and laughter to these precious members who are unable to attend church.

Clothes Closet/Food Pantry Scavenger Hunts
To help keep our Baptist Center clothes closets and food pantries stocked, we have a friendly competition between the Sunday school classes to collect needed items.

Fellowships

Porta Party
This is an all night, no sleeping, portable party. The activities change from year to year, but a typical night includes bowling, miniature golf, video games, laser tag, rock climbing, movies, pizza, and breakfast at IHOP.

Christmas Extravaganza
We share a potluck meal and then the games begin. Hide and seek, indoor croquet, game room tournaments, and a visit from Santa top the list.

Souper Bowl of Caring/Super Bowl Party
An opportunity to cheer on your favorite team and collect cans of food for our food pantry.

Hang Out House
Held at one of our student's homes...no agenda, just fun, food and games.

Opportunities to Lead

Youth Sunday
This is a chance to learn worship leadership first hand. It’s a great gift from our congregation to our youth and at the same time a way for our students to express their gifts to God through this community of faith. Every element of this hour is planned, prepared, facilitated and prayed into experience by our youth. This is also the time that we recognize our graduating high school seniors.

Senior Robing Ceremony
This is a special worship service for our high school seniors. There is a time for the seniors to recognize someone who has been important in their faith journey and a time for family and friends to give their blessing to the senior.

Youth Music Activities
During the school year we offer choir and handbell activities for our youth. Youth lead in worship throughout the year and each group takes a music/mission trip during the summer.
